Description
Arthur - Dreams and Images / Love is the Revolution CD. Dreamy folk psychedelia! Two rare LPs on one CD. Reissue of the two albums released by Arthur Lee Harper: “Dreams And Images” (from 1968) and “Love Is The Revolution” (from 1969). The first one was originally issued on Lee Hazelwood's LHI label, with just the artist name of "Arthur" (he's not connected to Arthur Lee of Love in any way, so don't even think about getting confused). Hazelwood contributed liner notes to the first album, referring to Arthur's baroque, ultra-soft pop as "a tear looking for a thirsty eye"! Pretty cool, if in an extremely wilted-way—don't breath too heavy while listening to this, the clouds might all fall down. This CD includes his complete early recordings; in 2003 the RD label issued an LP-only collection of later recordings.” “Remarkably successful chamber music folk psych trip, blows most of the similar LA producer pop LPs away. Wistful, dreamy, nostalgic. The reason it works so well is that every song is a completely realized idea, and that all songs stay within the clearly defined boundaries of the album. Beautiful woodwind arrangements, strong songwriting, and the right tpe of lyte-psych vocals....This is high quality stuff—trippy and melancholic with purely acoustic instrumentation spiced up here and there by the odd Leslie effects. There are no drums whatsoever on the album, which makes it quiet in an almost Linda Perhcas way.
