Totally disregarding any trends in psychedelic or other forms of music, the band stretches out and produces a soothing and at times intense, mind altering stew fit for cosmic travels and massive mind meandering. Winterhawk - Revival LP (ROCK053-V-1) New limited edition 2nd pressing on black vinyl only of highly anticipated 35th anniversary and first ever vinyl reissue of this all-time classic hard rock guitar private press record from 1982. Revival overflows with a powerful classic hard rock sound featuring the unmatched soaring vocals of bassist Doug Brown, tight, powerful hard hitting drumming from Scott Benes and the incomparable guitar wizardry of Jordan Macarus, who will leave you wondering why he isn't featured in every guitar magazine around. If you love hard rock lead guitar action like me, then do yourself a huge favor and grab this thing immediately, you absolutely will not regret it! As a classic hard progressive rock band. Winterhawk, thrived in Chicago’s late 70s rock scene that included groups like The Hounds, Cheap Trick, Pentwater, M&R Rush, Off Broadway, Arion, Sorcery, Medusa and many more. You could find them opening shows for acts like Budgie, Black Oak Arkansas, Steppenwolf and others. The band went through a few incarnations with different second guitarists, but was pared down to a three-piece for the Revival album which finally came together in 1982. The album was originally released in a limited edition on the band's own Lambda records and is now very collectable and sells for nearly $200 when it surfaces. Revival was first reissued on CD nearly 20 years ago and this has helped garner the band a large worldwide following, which has led to reunion concerts at festivals here in the USA and Europe, including an upcoming show in Germany at Keep It True Festival XXI. The reissue comes with full size booklet with lyrics, liner notes, interview and vintage photos plus an 11x17 poster featuring Doug Brown and Jordan Macarus. Ashbury's classic "Endless Skies" album, recorded in 1983, is now available again on compact disc from the Rockadrome label. This time around it is presented in the digipak format and still includes the same lyric/liner notes insert as the previous jewel case version. Since it's initial reissue by Rockadrome in 2007, Endless Skies has caught fire in the underground and helped to bring the Davis brothers out of retirement and back into action. They've played numerous music festivals in the U.S. and Europe, re-released their 2nd album, Something Funny Going On, and our preparing a new album for release! If you are ever in Arizona, you can check out one of their acoustic sets they perform locally on a regular basis. Meanwhile, Endless Skies has been reissued several times by labels around the world as well, in vinyl, compact disc and cassette format! It's now considered a bonafide classic!

70s Hard Rock Heavies

I've added an new category called My Top Picks. The first section under this new category is 70s Hard Rock Heavies and contains the list of items available in the store that I consider essential 70s underground heavy gems in the hard rock, prog rock and heavy psych genres. No folky, spacey or dreamy stuff here, that will be another list, this one is for stuff with heavy riffage, in-your-face lead guitar action, balls-out great rockers, quirky hard rockers with magical underground appeal or just flat out great hard rockin albums with awesome songs, vocals and guitar. You can't really go wrong here with any of these killers and you need them now in any format whether it be originals, vinyl reissues, or compact discs!

I will be trying to track down more and more to fill this out, my personal list for these picks has nearly 200 releases on it, many of which are hard to find expensive originals or out of print reissues, so it may take some time to get it up to 200 items but that's the goal.

For now I'm leaving off the obvious stuff like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Rush, Thin Lizzy, Budgie and other major label groups with a string of killer records.

TRUTH AND JANEY - TOPEKA JAM 2-LP (ROCK/LION-059-V-1)

From the archives comes this two album set featuring live material recorded during several nights in Topeka, Kansas at a club called Mothers circa 1974. This all went down two years prior to the release of their now legendary underground U.S. hard rock debut album, "No Rest for the Wicked," which has been one of Rockadrome's most popular re-releases over the years. They are captured here honing their craft and stretching out into extended jam sessions (with members of the band Kansas in attendance) as heard on the side long versions of "Midnight Horsemen" and "Trains Must Roll," both Truth and Janey classics. A CD version will follow shortly after the 2-LP vinyl is released. The track listing for this one is as follows:
