Grok - The Anthology 1964-2014 CD. Compilation of tracks from Baltimore area group that's been around in some form or another since the late 60s. This set of tracks contains various demos and live tracks and includes some pre-Grok material in the form of some Verditcs tracks from a 1964 single. The styles are mainly prog rock but also you'll find some surf, blues, psych, country, folk and some weird stuff as well. Knowing all this, you won't be surpised to learn that this is related to Baltimore band OHO, who both feature guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter J.P. Graboski. In fact, this is on the OHO music label! Their peculiar hybrid of bruising heavy rock and sci-fi fantasy is available for reappraisal on this neat set. The Anthology collects tracks from the band's initially short tenure, bolstering them with a number of demos, live tracks and a couple of songs from The Verdicts. Ballsy brass and slide guitar augment the satanic riffs, while lyrics ponder malevolent "porcupines" and onanism ("Insanity"). Latter day excursions into country-funk recall The James Gang. A pleasant discovery for this listener.
