Description

Iron Claw - Iron Claw CD. The first official release of early 70s Scottish underground heavy rock recordings from this group who were stomping around the UK with the likes of Black Sabbath, Hackensack, Pink Fairies, Juicy Lucy and others from the time, but never released a proper album. Their name, Iron Claw, was taken from the first line in King Crimson's song "21st Century Schizoid Man". In the beginning, Iron Claw probably became the world's first Black Sabbath tribute band, as they incorporated the entire first Black Sabbath LP and single into their set! As it turns out, Bassist Alex Wilson was the one who unearthed his personal recording of the oldest known concert tape of Black Sabbath, a 1969 gig recorded in Dumfries, Scotland! As time progressed, Iron Claw's live sets included many originals as well as hanging on to some covers such as War Pigs, Fairies Wear Boots, Wicked World, Green Manalishi and Lady Whisky. This collection of sixteen original studio tracks documents their existence from 1970 thru 1974 and features a wonderful 16-page booklet with extensive liner notes, lyrics and photos! For fans of Tear Gas, Leafhound and Jerusalem! (new, sealed)

Press:

"Best of all is the should-have-been-a-hit ‘Pavement Artist’, which hits all the right spots." - Shindig!

"16 pulverizing heavy early masterpieces of dirty doom metal, this is a can't miss package for all fans of heavy psych, proto-metal and the early days of doom rock." - The Ripple Effect

"This Scottish band is just ridiculously heavy and I think it's a travesty that the 16 songs they wrote around 1970/1971 never got an official release until 2009. This whole album is just breathtaking." - Terrorizer

Reviews

This is one of my favorite albums from the early 70's, and until now, just about impossible to find with decent sound quality. It's great to see a proper re-issue coming out. I would highly recommend it to any fan of the early 70's sound. There are a few nice heavy downer rock tracks if you enjoy that kind of thing... I know I do!
Looking for your next fix of quality 70's proto-metal goodness? Well, here it is! I was half expecting a Sabbath rip-off,particularly after reading the liner notes but that is not the case at all - what ya get is bluesy,louder-than-hell heavy rock riffage without ripping off anybody elses sound! A few of the tracks have flute which would likely make one think of Tull, but thankfully they dont take that too far, and they still retain their own style- they (thankfully) dont come across as Tull rip-offs either. The sound quality is a little uneven, I suspect some of the tracks are rough demos. This is still an amazing release, right up their with the unearthed Pentagram stuff Relapse put out a few years ago. Better late than never I suppose LONG LIVE IRON CLAW!!
