Description
Les Mogul (Mogollar) - Danses et Rhythmes de la Turquie CD. Sparkling reissue of a Turkish classic! the fantastic Mogollar (or Les Mogol as they were known in France, where this LP was first released by Guilde Internationale du Disque in 1971) have been a favorite of ours since we first had this album on vinyl about eight years ago; they formed in 1967, playing a style of experimental psychedelic rock based on the folk music of the Anatolian region of Turkey. Their unique Anatolian (or Anadolu) "pop" sound is simply a delight, as amply demonstrated by this particular album; thirteen tracks (loosely) based on traditional songs, using standard sixties rock instrumention, pounding electric organ, for example, but also bringing traditional Turkish instruments to the fore—playing ikligs baglamas, darbukas and kasiks, all fiercely strummed to great rock 'n' roll heights; spicy take on traditional music won the coveted Gtand Prix du Disque from the Academie Charles Cros.
