Description

Morgen - Morgen LP. 180-gram vinyl reissue of well-loved 1969 psychedelic rock album. Singer/guitarist Steve Morgen and company originally hailed from Long Island, New York. Signed by ABC's short-lived Probe subsidiary, their 1969 debut Morgen teamed them with producer Murray Shiffrin. After this superb debut, the entire band quite simply disappeared. If you're into heavy psych guitar, then this is for you. While Morgen had a competent, if limited voice, he was a truly amazing guitarist with the likes of Nick Saloman of Bevis Frond becoming a staunch advocate of Morgen's status as a 'psychedelic guitar hero.' Tracks such as 'Eternity In Between,' 'Welcome To the Void,' 'Of Dreams' and 'Beggin' Your Pardon' (Miss Joan) were simply drenched with fuzz and feedback guitar. Underpinned by Maiman's powerhouse drumming (easily compared with Led Zepplin's John Bonham) and suitably trippy lyrics and you're looking at a pseudo-classic slice of psychedelia.

Stu Kerner - I was a very good friend of Murray's when we were in HS. We lost touch when he was touring with the Joffrey. I only recently heard he had passed. I'm so sorry. The world lost a great guy and an unbelievable talent. His sister may remember me as Florence Trapani. I spent much time at their apt in Bay Terrace. I'd love to get in touch with anyone who could give me more details about his passing and where he's buried. Please contact me at mustanglola@icloud.com Thanks
Nice to see this album getting such acclaim after so many years of obscurity.
To set the record straight, the fantastic lead guitarist is Murray Shiffrin, who is also listed as the co-producer. I've seen the group play numerous times and being Murray's brother-in-law, I've followed his career since he was a kid. It's sad to see him not getting the proper credit due.
For general information, the band may have disappeared, but Murray did not. He went on to play with Jay and the Americans on their Sands of Time album and was given credit as Magic Murray Shiffrin.
He then had a great run as lead guitar with the Joffrey Ballet's rock group and accompanied them on their tour of the Soviet Union.
Unfortunately, Murray's life was cut short during heart surgery.
It was a great loss to us and the music scene, but I hope this helps to clear things up.
