Description

Jerusalem - Jerusalem CD. The first official reissue of this infamous metallic heavy rock album from 1972 produced by Deep Purple's legendary frontman, Ian Gillan. The music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early 80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene, it's that far ahead of its time. Originally released on the UK Deram/Decca label, and now a favorite among vinyl collectors, the album is presented here from the original master tapes and also features pre-album demos, alternate mixes, and a non-lp single track. The 20-page color booklet contains liner notes written by bassist Paul Dean, lyrics, press clippings, and rare photos! A must-have for fans of 70s hard rock and also the early 80s NWOBHM sound. From Classic Rock Mag #129 (Jerusalem is featured on the free sampler CD included with the magazine)

"sledgehammer-heavy masterpiece of underground British rock" - Classic Rock Magazine

"Devoid of the showy theatrics of the day (’72) the band has a stripped down rough-hewn majesty that gives them a timelessness lacking in many of their contemporaries." - Shindig! Mag (UK)

"All the songs are written by Jerusalem, and for a group so young they're quite astounding." - NME (1972)

"Not many bands really excite me. But this one's so raw and completely unpretentious. They make the biggest bloody noise you can imagine, tempered with moments of extreme emotion" - Ian Gillan (Deep Purple)

"Excellent British heavy rock from 1972, production guidance from Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan. The album is definitely a hard rocker in the same vein as Stray, Steamhammer and Samuel Prody also some of the more heavier German acts like NightSun, Message, and Hairy Chapter, rough doomy and very dynamic. Reviews

I'd put this one in the middle as far as the other reviews go. It's definitely not a one-star album, but it's also not the "be all, end all" that other reviews would have you believe it to be.
I'll go ahead agree with everything that was stated in the two previous reviews.
The only things I'll add are that the tone and riff on Primitive Man are as "DOOM" as anything you'll ever hear and the vocalist fits the music perfectly. When the music calls for it he really tears things up. Just get a damn copy; it's a true lost classic.
I have had this on repeat for the past 2 weeks. I am so blown away by this album and you will be to. Its heavy, dark, riffy what else can you ask for. The lyrics are amazingly doomy for its time. Trust me, this is a MASTERPIECE. I dont say that lightly....this is the real deal here. Get it now. You will be in a neck brace for a week.
Quite simply, this is the greatest hard rock album ever recorded. No other album could evr match its unique intensity and excellent songs. Lynden Williams is probably the greatest rock vocalist that ever lived. Paul Rodgers can only weep if he hears Lynden belting. The guitarist is also the greatest guitarist of all time. I\'ve never heard somebody play the instrument quite like him. Maybe it\'s just the talent given to them from god that manifests itself all over this masterpiece. The cover is also absolutely classic. If the band is reading this i urge you to reunite and play a a gig and release another album. Did you that you have a huge following amongst the indians living in south africa. I\'m not sure how that happened but youy guys are bigger than zeppelin over there! My life with be nothing without this album and i will continue to perservere to create something as great as it. Every single song is unique and it penetrates your soul. You can really feel it in your bones when you hear this album. I urge you to buy the best hard rock album ever. Thank you. Julian Raphael David.
This 1972 record is a great find. It was produced by Ian Gillan of Deep Purple. Fantastic hard rock in the vein of Sabbath with some good riffs. The guitars aren't as distorted as Sabbath, but still sound heavy. Track #5 "When the Wolf Sits" is a stormer! Let me cut to the chase, this record will rock your ass off! Just look at the cover!
This album is pretty sick. I know some people are complaining about the production, but that's what the makes the album so nasty. It's raw and pissed off, the way it should be. The lyrics are dark, the riffs are mean. Murderer's Lament is killer, indeed!
This is definitely one of the best cd's in my entire collection! If you love 70s rock and you do not own it, I advise that you to buy it immediately
This is indeed a worthy addition to anyones 70's hard rock collection. No where near Sabbath-heavy,but I guess what is??
